There is much more to playing the clavier than playing written music. Do you realize with accompanying there is often nothing written out but the bass line--the left hand? There might be a few notations as to a suggested harmony, but it is up to me to fill in the music, at the proper volume, style, and harmony for the soloist--often instantly. I've heard it said that Bach questioned wether the soloist or the accompanist deserves the greatest glory. Nancy Moser
About This Quote

This quote is a depiction of the true meaning of playing the piano. The piano is not simply an instrument to sit and play music; it is an instrument that requires much more than just sitting there and pressing keys. There are notes that must be played in the proper timing, with the proper touch, and with the proper tone. Accompaniment is essential in order to reach full potential in playing the piano.

There are only so many notes that one can play without having someone else play them for you. We all know that no matter how good we are at something, there are always people better than us at doing this exact same thing. If you are truly good at it you will have no trouble getting by on your own, but if you are not very good at playing, you will have to have someone else play the part for you.

Playing the piano is a skill that takes dedication, practice, and hard work to become great at.
